Auto Insurance in Missouri
Nobody likes to pay bills, especially for something that you might need to use someday. Paying for peace of mind is worth it when it comes to car insurance, whether you are protecting your wallet or yourself.
Insurance for your vehicle is available from many companies, and costs vary greatly with factors such as age, driving history, credit history, type of automobile, and more. Whatever the price, quality car insurance is not only a nice thing to have, it is mandatory.
In the State of Missouri, auto insurance is required by law. Every vehicle on the road must meet this minimum level of liability coverage:
- Bodily Injury Liability: $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident. This covers injuries to others caused by you.
- Property Damage Liability: $25,000 per accident. This coverage pays for damages you cause to someone else’s car or to objects and structures your car hits.
- Uninsured Motorist: $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident. This covers injuries to you and your passengers caused by an uninsured or hit-and-run driver.
If you have a loan on your vehicle, you also need to have additional insurance, often referred to as “full coverage.” You must have collision insurance that covers damage to your car from hitting an inanimate object, such as a tree, vehicle or house. You also must have comprehensive coverage that covers vehicle damage to your from theft, vandalism, hail, flood, fire or destruction from animals.
Most importantly, you want the assurance that you will be financially protected if something should happen when you are on the road. Medical expenses can be incredibly high, and you may be held responsible for bodily injury of others in an auto accident. This is on top of paying property damages for someone else’s car or other items damaged in a crash. Insurance may also cover the cost of an attorney if you are sued as the result of an auto-related accident. Your own expenses and vehicle repair or replacement costs are also usually included in full coverage policies.
Insurance carriers may also offer additional coverage options such as roadside assistance, rental car coverage, or insurance for after-market parts or installations. You also might be eligible for discounts for young drivers with good grades or by bundling our auto insurance with home or renter’s insurance. An insurance professional will assist you in getting the right coverage for a fair price.
