Missouri Driver Improvement Program (DIP)
Moving violation. Points on your license. Traffic school.
Hopefully, these terms are only vaguely familiar to you. If not, you know that speeding tickets can impact your record and increase your auto insurance premiums. If you have received a traffic ticket in the State of Missouri, the Missouri Driver Improvement Program (DIP) course may help you avoid some of those costs.
To qualify for the Missouri DIP, you or your attorney must appear in court and request to take the program. This is not an automatic process, as courts consider the program on a case-by-case basis. So once you’ve plead guilty and paid your fine, successful completion of the Missouri Driver Improvement Program stops accumulation of additional points on your license. Too many points on your license may result in fines, license suspension and fees for reinstatement.
You will have 60 days from the date you plead guilty to your moving violation to complete the program. When enrolling, be sure to have your court origination number, name of the court, case number and date of conviction. The Missouri DIP can be completed online or in person and consists of a minimum of eight hours of instruction.
Fees for online courses range from $15-$50. Once a course has been completed, mail your certificate of completion to the Missouri Department of Revenue in Jefferson City to make certain any points associated with your violation are removed from your record.
If you received your moving violation on a motorcycle, you will have to complete a separate motorcycle-rider training course. Those who received a moving violation with a commercial driver’s license are ineligible for the Missouri DIP.
