Kirkwood Driver’s Education

Missouri Driving School provides personal driver’s education classes in Kirkwood, Missouri!

Kirkwood, a town of more than 27,000 residents west of the city of St. Louis, has its history rooted in a different mode of transportation from driving: trains. Kirkwood is named after James P. Kirkwood, the chief engineer of the Missouri Pacific Railroad. He was laying out a route for the train line at the same time as Hiram W. Leffingwell and Richard Smith Elliott were planning the first suburban community outside St. Louis city. Kirkwood was platted in 1852 and the railroad was finished through Kirkwood in 1853. The idea was to encourage families to live there, and industrial development was prohibited.

The Magic House points to Kirkwood as being a family-friendly area. The Magic House is a children’s museum that was founded in 1979 and has “hands-on learning experiences that spark imagination, pique curiosity, enhance creativity and develop problem-solving skills,” according to the museum’s website. As a result, the town of 9.2 square miles is still very resident-centric and provides a great suburban backdrop for learning to drive in a highly residential area. At the same time, Kirkwood has easy access to highway driving because of Highway 270 to the west, Interstate 44 running through the south of the city, and Manchester Road, or Missouri Route 100, on the north side of the city. Kirkwood also has five elementary schools, two middle schools, one high school and one community college campus. The city runs the gamut for diverse traffic situations when it comes to learning to drive.
